If you’re looking for a getaway that includes everyone, including the family pet, that’s surrounded by beautiful red rocks, Sedona is the place to be. Fresh mountain air and comfortable temperatures year-round make Sedona and its beautiful red rock scenery a must. You and your fur baby can enjoy the scents and feel of a location in a pine forest like no other. There are plenty of things to do and see for two-legged and four-legged visitors in pet-friendly Sedona and the surrounding area that will keep everyone happy and busy throughout your stay.

Red Rock Scenic Byway

Take everyone on a sightseeing tour. Pack up the rental car with everything you’ll need for a good time sightseeing and taking in all the Sedona red rock beauty. SR-179, better known as The Red Rock Scenic Byway, is a short trip that can last all day. The byway itself only measures ten miles in length, but you can while away the day at the many scenic pull-off points along the route. Marvel at the towering red rocks, fall colors, and breathtaking view of Red Rock Country. Cruise the byway at sunset as the colors glow while the sun sets below the rocky vistas. Don’t forget to stop by the Coconino National Forest visitor’s center for maps of local hiking and biking trails if you’re looking for exercise as well as a pretty drive. Since the drive takes place from the comfort of your car, and most of the trails are pet-friendly, your pet can see all the sights too!

Hiking

Lace-up your hiking shoes and grab the leash. Hiking the red rocks of Sedona and the surrounding area is a must-do and a great way for everyone to get in some exercise in the great outdoors. Not only are you in for the beauty of red rocks and pine trees among fresh mountain air, but the landscape will also be drenched with color, too. There is a myriad of trails that challenge every skill level from beginner to advanced. Make sure to pack your hiking essentials, including your sun gear, plenty of water for all, and your camera.

Wine Tour

Sedona’s unique climate of desert heat during the day and cool northern Arizona nights makes a perfect environment for winemaking. There are several special tours that allow you to visit many – or even all – of the over 20 wineries that call Sedona home. Wine Tours of Sedona allows you to bring your dog along for the ride! Take a custom tour of the wineries that matches your unique interests, palate, and desires. All tours include wine tasting fees, and you can add on lunch, dinner, charcuterie, and artisan chocolate plates for an extra charge. Some wineries may even provide a little snack for your pooch. You’ll get a complimentary digital photo of every tour, along with a 10% discount for families with dogs. You can head over to their location or ask about complimentary pickup at your vacation rental!

Sedona Dog Park

The city of Sedona has created a place just for you and your dog! The Sedona Dog Park is located at the corner of Soldier’s Pass Road and Carruth Drive. It offers separate areas for large and small dogs, so everyone can have a good time. Your pup will have access to a water station, and for the humans, there are benches and large shade structures. Dogs must have current vaccinations. Ask about dog licenses if you’re coming from out of town or out of state. Call 928-282-7098. The park is closed Thursdays 9-10 a.m.

State Parks

There are several pet-friendly Sedona state parks in the area. You’ll love the hiking, open space, picnic areas, camping areas, and more that each provides. Many of the parks allow your furry friend to join in the fun. There is information about restrictions posted at each park, so you’ll know before you enter where your dog can and can’t go. Hike the area trails and see some amazing sites and breathtaking views. Make sure you pack plenty of water and sun protection for everyone!
