There is definitely a list of things you will want to do while visiting the magical town of Sedona, and for those who walk to the beat of a different drummer, the ones who have lived life on their own terms, there is a whole world that is waiting to be discovered. From trails that only the locals know about to tours that most people would not consider, we at I Love Sedona are sharing the secrets of our favorite place on earth, having created this guide to Sedona off the beaten path adventures that your Arizona journey would be incomplete without experiencing. So pour yourself something refreshing, kick off your shoes, and take some time to explore the mostly unexplored side of our red rock village!

Day 1: Sunrises, Chilaquiles, and a Hike Through the Past

The good thing about Daylight Savings Time is the realization that even as sunrise in Arizona comes early, it will feel as if you have slept in late, ensuring that you don’t miss Mother Nature’s most stunning performance. Roll out of bed, grab a robe or jacket to guard against the morning chill, and head out to the back patio to watch the red rocks come to life after a night’s slumber, discovering our first secret of the day. Arizona sunrises will change the way you look at the world forevermore!

And now that you are wide awake and sufficiently impressed, it is time to head to another local favorite, the SaltRock Kitchen, 100 Amara Lane #101, for a breakfast that should include a true Sedona favorite, Chilaquiles. Created with eggs, salsa, pork carnitas, guacamole, and the secret ingredient of tortilla chips, this special dish may be one you want to add to your own kitchen’s menu on a regular basis.

After the chilaquiles, a hike through history is next up on the schedule for this first day in paradise, but remember, this trail is a tough one, lasting 8.2 miles and featuring a gain in elevation of 1180 feet. Munds Wagon, but we promise it will be worth it. Walking in the footsteps of early settlers from over a hundred years ago, the hike that makes you sweat today was once a cattle trail leading settlers and their livestock out of town.

This off the beaten path Sedona AZ trail will take a lot out of you, so it is the only path you will take today, stopping for a hearty dinner at a local favorite, the Cowboy Club Grille, before heading back home to sleep deep and dream happy.

Day 2: A Different Perspective

Life comes at you fast and hard and it can be difficult to greet each day with a smile and positivity which makes the spiritual side of Sedona life changing. We are very in tune with nature here in the red rocks and we recognize the spiritual benefits it can bring, and a retreat with one of our local “healers” will create the most magical of memories. Do yourself a favor and start your day with a hearty breakfast at the Red Rock Café and pick a theme for your spiritual retreat with Gregory Drambour. He is a popular guy and offers retreats that last half days and longer, so be sure to reserve your slot by calling (928) 274-2427. This day in paradise will help change your perspective on life, love, and work, helping you find peace and happiness. By the end of the retreat, you will probably be physically, emotionally, and mentally drained, making an evening at home in your Sedona sanctuary a most needed comfortable adventure while giving you the opportunity to explore all the amenities we offer.

Day 3: Look to the Stars

On your final day in Sedona, we invite you to fill the daylight hours with some of the more standard touristy activities, checking out the shops, the views, and the restaurants that will help fill your belly and feed your soul. It’s the nighttime hours we want to concentrate on for the moment, as you look to the stars for the next couple of adventures.

We often think that we would be egotistical to believe that we are the only inhabited planet in the universe, and if you are of like mind, a Sedona UFO Tour will perhaps give you the opportunity to prove yourself right! Tours are year-round, starting after sunset so times will change according to when you are visiting and make use of state-of-the-art equipment to help make the search easier.

Sedona is a Dark Sky Community, doing its best to eliminate light pollution, which gives visitors the opportunity to really see the stars and planets after the sun sets. Evening Sky Tours offers tours of the solar system led by professional astronomers that reveal the magic in the stars, giving guests a celestial adventure they will never forget.
